Do I have to use the App?
Paderborn University is endeavouring to make as many applications and services relating to campus life as possible easily accessible. The UPB-App is a first attempt in this direction by combining various applications and making them available on mobile devices. You can still use all functions as usual via the browser if you prefer. There are alternative solutions for self-printing ID cards.
I don't want to create an account in one of the app stores, how can I still download the App?
The UPB-App is currently only available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. We are already working on a solution to make the app available to you without the app store. We will inform you here as soon as we have any news in this regard.
Who is the provider of the App?
The UPB-App is offered in cooperation with the external service provider UniNow. UniNow is a spin-off of the University of Magdeburg and works with more than 80 universities.
Do I have to register with UniNow to be able to use the App?

Do I have to log in to the App?
To be able to use the ID card function and all other functions to their full extent, you must log in to the UPB-App with your university account.
Do I have to choose a field of study?
No, specifying a field of study is optional. By selecting the field of study, UniNow can display suitable content. This information is irrelevant for the content displayed by Paderborn University.
Do I still need the PAUL App at all?
The UPB-App has a different range of functions to the PAUL-App and the PAUL-Webportal at https://paul.uni-paderborn.de.
So far, it is only possible to link your PAUL calendar to the UPB-App calendar on a monthly basis. Other links to the campus management system within the UPB-App may still be expanded. We will inform you here as soon as there is news in this regard.

The first semester section of the UPB-App contains useful information and links for new students at Paderborn University. From the orientation programme to organisational matters to the student councils - you will find the right places to go here.
How do I turn off push notifications?
To deactivate push notifications about new posts in the feed, click on the profile picture of the account from which you no longer wish to receive push notifications. You will be taken to the profile page. Click on the bell to the right of the profile picture to deactivate push notifications for your role.
You can switch push notifications about new e-mails in your mailbox on or off via the “Settings” > “Notifications” tab.
You can generally deactivate all push notifications from the UPB-App via the general settings of your smartphone.
What does the Career menu item in the App mean?
Various external job offers can be found in the “Careers” section of the view for students. UniNow co-operates with a large number of companies for this purpose.
If you would still like to use the module, you must select at least 5 companies that you would like to follow. You will then receive newsfeed content and possibly also push notifications from these companies. This can be cancelled as follows:
- Deactivation of push notifications: Click on the profile picture of the respective company to go to the profile page. Click on the bell to the right of the profile picture to set or completely switch off push notifications for certain content.
- Follow company profiles: Click on the profile picture of the respective company to go to the profile page. Click on "Follow me" to the right of the profile picture to unfollow the company.
The content published by the companies is not connected to Paderborn University. As the careers portal in its current form does not meet our expectations of university-internal app use, we are working on a solution to switch it off.
Who publishes articles in the App feed?
Paderborn University uses the newsfeed as a channel for internal communication. Here you will receive updates and cross-university information from the central units. All units initially communicate via the "Uni Paderborn" channel (UPB claw as profile picture), which you follow automatically. In emergencies and crisis situations, the university can also send push notifications to all users.
If you have any questions about the communication concept, please contact the Press, Communication and Marketing department:
Is the App also available in English?

Data protection[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]
Is the App GDPR-compliant?
Since 2017, the app has been audited annually by TÜV Süd. The annual audits and software tests cover the areas of functionality, data security, quality assurance and data protection in accordance with the legal requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the BSI's IT baseline protection compendium. In addition to the certificate for quality and functionality, TÜV also issues an expert opinion for data protection and data security. Further information can be found here:
Will my access data be transferred to UniNow and stored on the servers?
All requests to the PAUL campus management system are made directly from the app, i.e. from the user's end device. This ensures that the access data is sent exclusively to the university's site and is never sent to the UniNow GmbH servers. The pure HTML code is then sent from the mobile device to the UniNow GmbH servers for processing, where it is prepared or processed in such a way that the app can display it in a standardised format. During this processing, no personal data is stored permanently, but is only stored in the working memory at the time of processing.
Further information on the processing of data within the UPB-App can be found here:
